Bio:
With a drumming style steeped in African rhumba and a musical knowledge spanning the funky to the avant-garde, drummer Dale Fanning is an established presence in jazz, funk and world music. Called "a drummer to watch closely in the coming years" by Modern Drummer Magazine, Dale brings a diverse arsenal and solid foundation to Children of the Revolution. Dale began his professional career playing Soukous, a Congolese dance music style which earned him the drum chair for the Smithsonian Folkways recording "Safarini: Music of African Immigrants". He’s toured extensively throughout North America and Europe with Living Daylights, an avant-garde jazz trio that has recorded with guitarist Bill Frisell, twice cracked the CMJ top ten, received four star reviews in Downbeat and Billboard magazines, and been the subject of a National Public Radio feature. He conceptualized and formed Lushus, a project featuring the legendary Bernie Worrell (P-funk, Talking Heads) and guitarist Grant Green, Jr. Lushus’s first performance was featured extensively in the Award winning documentary film “Stranger: Bernie Worrell On Earth”. He was the drummer at the “Organ Summit”, an event held at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, where he shared the stage with Hammond organ greats Reuben Wilson and Jimmy McGriff. Dale leads percussion workshops and master classes at colleges and universities throughout the United States and has presented at schools such as Princeton, Mount Holyoke, Endicott, Grinnell, U-Mass Lowell and many more.
